Which Stream is better,Matric or O’Level

Comparative study      O’Level  VS. Matric

Today’s cognizant and well-educated parents seem to be very concerned about the future and successful career of their children.

In recent years, before the born of a child parent thoughts regarding child’s education and selection of his (or her) schools are started.

Two questions are considered more important in this regard, first, in which school to do the admission, and the second question will O Level a better choice for him or Matriculation system? And what is the difference between O Level and Matric in Pakistan?

Which is better O level vs Matric in Pakistan?

8th class students have 2 options after clearing the middle standard exam in Pakistan i.e Matric and O-Level. Majority of Pakistani students and even parents have no idea about the difference and scope of Matriculation and O-Level.

Not only parents are confused regarding the selection of O Level or Matriculation system, but also a large number of children suffer from it.

This is an important question that whether one should choose from the O Level or Matric. However, What’s more important in this regard is that the experts do not consider the success or failure for selecting either O Level or Matric.

According to them, before the selection of O Level vs Matric, What’s more important for parents is to understand that the child do not succeed by doing O Levels and do not fails by doing Matric.

A passion and interest is essential for achieving purpose in a life, and the students who have the passion, they can illuminate the name of the country after doing Matriculation from any school and if there is a lack of passion, then even O Level students can’t achieve what they’ve dream in their life.

The example of many famous scientists around the world is in front of us, who had studied from village schools, but despite of their passion and dedication they got success.

Now talk to the Choice of O Level or Matric, both the form of schooling have a duration of 10 years.

According to experts, the difference in O Level or Matriculation system are only the expenses because O Level education is more costly than Matriculation.

However, if you want your child to send overseas to receive higher education in the future, then O Level is the best choice but if you want your child to study in any Pakistani University for higher education in any field of Science or Engineering then pursuing Matriculation can be preferred.

Difference in Educational Expenses

Difference of Expenses produce a special difference in the both systems of education. For example, the Matric education system is set up under the Local framework, while international system of education is considered for O Level.

The O Level is called the fundamental level of education that is equivalent to Matric but system of education is British rather than Local.

The United Kingdom’s Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) conducts O Level examinations twice in a year globally.

Difference in Syllabus and Curriculum (O Level vs Matric)

Second and the main difference in O Level or Matric education system is a Syllabus. The O Level Curriculum is based on a comprehensive and conceptual basis, which enhance student’s critical thinking and the degree of understanding is broad.

Quality-Based and hard curriculum already prepares O Level students for difficulties in the practical world.

Matriculation Syllabus on the other side have been running in Pakistan for many years, due to which students prefer cramming instead of studying on conceptual basis.

Difference in the Grading Systems

Another difference that is found in both systems of education is the Grading Criteria. During the O Level education, students are given grades from A + to E, but the students who do not succeed in achieving any of these grades are given U grade.

On the other hand Matric Examination results are based on the aggregate numbers and their corresponding percentages.

Examinations Held Twice in a Year

Examination of students under the O Level Framework is held twice in a year. The first examination is held in May and June, while the other is taken during November and December.

The student, who did not get a good grade in any subject during the first examination, can improve his grade after registering for the next examination and the same applies to U grade students.

On the other hand, Matric Examination is held only once a year, and if a student does not get good marks or fails in a paper, then he (or she) is able to give supplementary / improvement examination.

However, the problem is that supplementary / improvement is written on the Marksheet.

To Develop Logical and Practical Understanding

The purpose of the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) System is to develop students’ logical and practical thinking, according to which 2 to 3 examinations of a single subject are taken, while all the students during matriculation give paper of one subject at a time.

Internationally Recognized Certification

In contrast to Matric, O Level is called the Internationally Recognized Certification, through which the doors of Job Opportunities in abroad are opened.

On the other hand, the SAT Examination (Examination for Admission in American Colleges and Schools) also makes it easy.

Top differences between O’level and matriculation are as follows.

Thus, such students have to find many difficulties in future careers.

·         Exams for Matriculation are held once a year, that is March/April and also students can appear in supplementary exams in order to improve their marks. ·         The exams for O levels are held twice in a year that is May/June and October/November.
·         The grading system of O levels is much simpler than matriculation as it is according to the international grading system. ·         Matriculation grading system works with marks by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.
·         O levels tests the basic concepts of the students. ·         Matriculation deals mainly in the memory power of the student.
·         O level learning is considered to be much superior due to its international standards. ·         Matric learning framework, is designed by the local Board in Pakistan.
